Sixth Form students from Bournemouth Collegiate School enjoyed Fall in the Big Apple courtesy of their recent excursion “across the pond”. It was a comprehensive, if somewhat whistle-stop, tour of the city which has more than whetted pupils’ appetites for more.

Ably led by Graeme White, Head of Sixth Form at BCS, and Sixth Form Coordinator Alice Rowe, the Sixth Formers started their trip with a walk over the famous Brooklyn Bridge (enjoying sustenance in the form of an authentic New York pizza) before heading to the Hard Rock Café in Times Square for supper; jet lag combined with the bright lights of the big city confusing everyone.

Day two of the trip was a walk down memory lane – a visit to Lady Liberty before pausing to reflect at the 9/11 memorial. The Rangers gained some extra (fervent) fans that evening when the BCS contingent attended one of their ice hockey games; Sixth Former Adam even managed to show his own sporting prowess by catching a t shirt from the t shirt gun.

In order to truly experience New York students also participated in tours both traditional and less-traditional. The Central Park tour left lots of students exclaiming “that’s where THAT was filmed” and Grand Central station provided many opportunities for students to recreate their favourite movie moments. The Graffiti Tour and the High Line both gave students a taste of the real city, before they watched the sun set at Top of the Rock.

Head of Sixth Form at BCS Graeme White said “It was a jam packed five days in the Big Apple; the Sixth Formers were absolutely brilliant and were actually a huge support – especially when it came to navigating around the city/subway. Everyone got on really well and we were laughing the whole trip – the students made the trip!”
