Connecting with China

Bethany School is delighted to be hosting 25 pupils and four teachers from our exchange school, No. 5 Middle School in Yunnan Province, China for one week from Saturday 9th February.

The trip will benefit both our current pupils and also the visiting Chinese pupils, allowing both sets of pupils to learn something about the other’s cultures. Our pupils are very much looking forward to helping our Chinese guests to gain some insight into a British boarding school and develop their knowledge of the UK education system. We also hope that our visitors will be able to teach us some of their traditions and share some details of their own schooling back home.

We have been teaching Mandarin at Bethany from Year 7 for the past three years, and we hope that the visiting pupils can enrich those classes for our own pupils too.

Headmaster, Francie Healy, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming our Chinese guests with typical British hospitality. Our visitors have been ‘buddied up’ with our individual pupils to help them settle in and get a feel for their surroundings. I am certain that both sets of young people will be able to learn about their different cultures and hopefully become lifelong friends.”

We have organised an extensive activities programme for our guests including Drama and Sport during the week and visits to London and Cambridge on weekends.

We hope that this will lead to exciting opportunities for our own pupils as they continue to grow as well-rounded young adults.
