Keen hockey player Lucas Brandon is a regular in Derby Grammar School’s Under 13 team, as well as his club side, Belper Hockey Club. This season he has gained a place on the Derbyshire County Team squad too.

Lucas, aged 12 and from Fritchley, has been a regular in the school hockey teams since Junior School and joined his club team last year after enjoying the sport so much. His position is goalkeeper, which means he wears a lot of protection!

Earlier this year he took part in the summer trials for the Derbyshire county team and was selected to join the team. So far this season he’s played in two tournaments against other county sides, and team one have won each game so far.

Lucas said: “I was very proud to keep a clean sheet in the first tournament I played in. I love saving shots and diving around in my kit. I’m learning and getting better every time I play. The county players especially are very strong, there’s lots of talent in the team.

I’m having fun with so many different team mates across all of my teams. I’ve also been selected to play for Belper Hockey Club in the England Hockey U14 Championship ”

Mr Whitworth is Head of Games at Derby Grammar School. He said: “We are delighted with Lucas’s achievements. He is a stalwart of the school side and we have encouraged him all the way to join the club and county sides.

We are very proud of all of our pupils whose love of sport takes them beyond the school sides to play at club and county level.”
