Principal of Westholme School in Lancashire, Lynne Horner has been elected as Chair of the Society of Heads for the year 2018 – 2019.

The Society of Heads is a strong community of independent schools, who share innovative ideas and approaches to learning. The overarching aim is to help provide appropriate and balanced curriculums within schools, which actively foster and develop key attributes in pupils.

In this role Lynne provides leadership to the Society and its Committee and the schools in membership; she is the 46th Chair since 1961 and only the second woman to hold this position, the other being Sue Freestone from Kings Ely. She represents the Society at, meetings and events including the annual conferences of other national educational leadership organisations including HMC, AGBIS, IAPS, ISA, ISBA and BSA.

Lynne says “I am delighted and proud to fulfil the role of Chair of the Society of Heads this year.  It is already a privilege to lead Westholme and to have the opportunity to represent our school and likeminded independent institutions through the excellent work of the Society is truly exciting.  The independent sector is vibrant and Society schools are characterised by traits that we hold dear at Westholme…. namely nurturing the individual; pastoral care; academic excellence; diverse and strong co-curricular opportunities and ensuring the strong personal development of character for every child. With the Society, we have a strategic plan giving our organisation focus and professional fellowship. We are currently building links with the Canadian Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) and I am looking forward to representing the Society at their CAIS Conference in Calgary this year”
