Bournemouth Collegiate School is celebrating its best ever Bebras results this year - over 159 pupils in the School took part in the challenge which introduces computational thinking to students in 40 countries across the world to get them excited about the future of the discipline.

Pupils at the Dorset-based School study Computer Science as a compulsory subject in Years 7, 8, 9 and can elect to study it after this should they wish. Of the pupils who participated in the challenge 46 pupils gained Distinctions and 42 were awarded Merits, with a further 6 placing in the top 10% for their respective age age groups and have been invited to move forward to the next round of the competition.

Computer Science Teacher Alan Naden said "I'm very proud of our pupils in the Bebras Computational Thinking challenge with 28% gaining a Distinction, a record for the school and six pupils invited to take part in the TCS Oxford Computing Challenge, run in conjunction with the University of Oxford."

Deputy Head, Academic Helen Pike added "These Bebras results come at an exciting time for Bournemouth Collegiate School as we have just rolled out the next phase of our Digital Learning Strategy with the introduction of iPads to pupils in Years 7-10. During the last 12- 18 months the school has undergone some significant changes in the development of digital learning within the curriculum which has been developed to improve pupils' technological skills, and to prepare them for life after School. I am absolutely thrilled at these set of results as they show just how successful our strategy has been thus far; success which we plan to build on in the future."
