Moreton Hall School Sixth Form student Molly is fundraising for St John Ambulance by running a sponsored marathon. Explaining her motivation for fundraising, Molly commented: “I’m doing this to raise money for St John Ambulance, a charity I am heavily involved in and that I hold very dear. We are currently on the front line, working alongside NHS staff during this pandemic. Those of us who are unable to be in a clinical role due to being under 18, but still want to help, have come up with other ways that we can continue supporting this charity that we are so proud to be a part of."

Molly has a long association with the charity since joining 7 years ago. Currently, Molly is Lead Cadet at her unit, an NCO role that means she is responsible for arranging and providing weekly training sessions for 30+ cadets, as well as being their ‘first point of call’ for pastoral and other issues. Last year Molly was elected as her district’s representative for the Regional Youth Forum, the main role of this is to continually improve St John Ambulance for the thousands of cadets within the charity. Due to all of her involvement, Molly was commended for her ‘commitment, support and service’ to the organisation with an award from the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, last summer.

She continued: “My Easter holidays have included running virtual meetings, taking over from adults to provide training and pastoral support to cadets and raising as much money as I can! All the money goes towards buying medical supplies, paying for PPE, providing training and running our ambulances. I’m also doing this in memory of my Grandpop, who died last month and who, due to the restrictions around hospitals and funerals, many of my family, including myself, have found very difficult to say goodbye to. So, I’m doing this to remember and honour Tom Ogden as well.”

Molly's current target is £600, and she has 97% of it so far. Donations can be made via www.justgiving.com/fundraising/moll-sja-marathon
