Head Girl and A' Level Art student at Austin Friars in Carlisle, Hannah Le Brocq, reports on the visit from world-famous artist Simon Bull:

Recently, we were very lucky to have the artist Simon Bull visit School to speak to the VI Form about his life and work. It was fascinating to talk to him about his work and his journey as an artist. He had many exciting and interesting stories about his life and it was really useful and inspiring to have the input of such a successful painter. Bull has recently completed a commission for an American couple in LA and we had the chance to watch a video of him completing the 17ft piece in just five days which was truly fascinating. Whilst living in Cumbria he spent much of his time painting in the Lake District and he told us how this has been influential in his work today.

He ran a workshop for us, demonstrating how he makes multiple pieces from the printing of wet blobs of paint from one piece of paper to another. The end result was very effective and it is an efficient way for him to complete the many orders he is given from cruise ship companies.

It was an amazing experience to actually see him painting and we were left feeling inspired to try new techniques and experiment with colour. We are very privileged to have met such world-famous Artist.
