Westholme were delighted to have a visit from alumni Camilla Ainsworth, successful business woman and finalist on the BBC programme, The Apprentice with Lord Sugar this week.

Camilla, or ‘Millie’, as her old teachers remembered from her school days, gave a talk at lunchtime in the Learning Resource Centre to a gathering of students who are avid fans of the infamous show. Camilla regaled the audience with stories from behind the scenes and answered questions about her new product ‘M+LKPLUS.

Later in the afternoon, Camilla talked to the Year 11 and Lower Sixth students in the lecture theatre.

One of our students, Saoirse O’Neill, wrote a report of the talk: “It was inspiring to listen to the success story of an ‘Old Westholmian’, Camilla Ainsworth, who came to talk to Year 10 and Lower Sixth and reminisced about her days at Westholme. She shared her initial business ideas for ‘M+LKPLUS’ and how it has been developed over a year from cardboard cartons with a shelf life of a few days, to working on biodegradable bottles with a shelf life of five months. Camilla has produced two brand new products in just 3 months and she told us how her product is unique - there is nothing like it on the market.

For many Apprentice fans out there, she also let us in to a few of the show’s secrets - ever wondered what Lord Sugar is really like? Finally, she joked about her ‘Jet Pop’ disaster on the show. Telling us the important message not to give up when things go wrong!

Camilla also spoke about the advantage she had against other opponents, having been to Westholme her whole school life. She highlighted the excellent public speaking skills students develop here, as Westholme facilitates so many opportunities to put them into practice. Camilla spoke enthusiastically and answered all the students’ burning questions; we were very grateful for her insight into both the world of business and the apprentice!

Thank you to Camilla for returning to Westholme, we wish you every success and hope you will come back again soon!
