This term we have seen a new addition to our main hall’s book corner, a reading haven Arctic Cave.
This snowy bubble is the perfect place for pupils to explore the wonderful wondrous adventures of the Arctic, learning about renowned expeditions and the varied wildlife that call this icy landscape their home.
The Arctic Cave is in keeping with Moreton First's topic of the term, and this is a chance for the whole school to come together and explore a theme. What better to accompany these chilly winter months than to direct our attention to life in the Arctic? So far pupils have learnt about intrepid explorers such as Sir Ranulph Fiennes who has made numerous exhibitions to both the South and North Poles. Sadly investigations have revealed the plight of the endangered animals of the Tundra, therefore our Eco Team are planning ways to enlighten others about the gradual disappearance of the Polar Bear and Arctic Fox.
Head of Moreton First Catherine Ford commented: ‘Curled up in our own Moreton First Arctic cave is a great place to read about this giant, white, frozen region which plays a super-important role in keeping our global climate stable.’
Dave Pickles, a local mountaineer and Arctic explorer will spend the morning at Moreton First on Friday 10th February as the pupils will enjoy a morning of Arctic fun!
