Bedales School students have gained university places at some of the most prestigious institutions in the world including Oxbridge, leading conservatoires, art colleges and medical schools following the release of A level results last week.

Martha Harlan who achieved three A*s in English Literature, Religious Studies and Drama & Theatre Studies, and B in History will attend St Benet’s Hall, Oxford to read Philosophy and Theology. Anna Baring* will read French at Wadham College, Oxford after gaining three A*s in English Literature, French and Latin; and Julia Newlands* who achieved three A*s in Biology, Chemistry and Maths will study Biochemistry at University of Bath.
Other Bedales students celebrating Oxbridge places include Josh Mazas* who achieved A* in Spanish and two As in Maths and Drama & Theatre Studies to read Modern and Medieval Languages at King’s College, Cambridge, and 2016 leavers, former Head Girl Becky Grubb and Juliet Shapiro who will take up places at Magdalene College, Cambridge to study History of Art and Wadham College, Oxford, to study Human Sciences respectively.
Other impressive achievements include Noah Clarke Hall* who will attend University of Manchester to read Physics having gained two A*s in Maths and Physics and two As in Chemistry and Further Maths; Michael Paterson* who will take up his place at University of Bath to study Mechanical and Electrical Engineering after achieving two A*s in Physics and Maths and two As in Chemistry and Further Maths; and Head Girl Sam Harding* who achieved A* in Drama & Theatre Studies, two As in English Literature and Religious Studies and B in History, and will attend London School of Economics to study Government.
Bedales students taking up places this year to study Medicine include Ollo Catton* at the University of Bristol after achieving A* in Biology and two As in Chemistry and Maths – he has been the longest serving student in his cohort having attended school at Bedales since the age of two, and progressing through Bedales pre-prep and prep schools. 2016 leaver Rori Abell* takes up a place to study Medicine this year at the University of Dundee.
Students bound for international institutions to study Liberal Arts & Sciences include Eloise Anderson* at McGill, Canada, who achieved two A*s in Psychology and Religious Studies and A in Biology; Lulu McConville* at Leiden University, Netherlands after achieving A* in English Literature, A in History, and B in Classical Civilisation; and Godelieve de Bree at Haverford College, US having gained two A*s in English Literature and Religious Studies and B in History.
The outstanding musical tradition of Bedales continues with students awarded places at some of the country’s leading conservatoires. Luca Caruso will study drums with a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music having gained M1 (equivalent to an A) in Music Pre-U and A in Spanish; Caleb Curtis achieved D2 (equivalent to A*) in Music Pre-U, B (English Literature), and D (Maths) and will study cello, also at the Royal Academy of Music; Antonia Richards*, who achieved M1 in Music Pre-U (equivalent to an A), A (Drama & Theatre Studies) and B (English Literature) will study voice at Trinity Laban; and Hope Cramsie achieved D3 (equivalent to an A) in Music Pre-U and two As in Religious Studies and Spanish and will study guitar at the Royal College of Music. 2016 leaver George Butler will study voice at the Royal Northern College of Music. The following students have been awarded places on Music degree courses: Finn Carter, Goldsmiths, University of London, having gained D3 (equivalent to A) in Music Pre-U, A in Drama & Theatre Studies and C in Psychology; Quito Clothier* at University of Bristol, having gained D3 (equivalent to A) in Music Pre-U, A in Spanish and C in Economics; and Elmo Meath Baker, at University of Bristol, who achieved D3 (equivalent to A) in Music Pre-U and two Bs in Greek and Latin.
A significant number of students will continue their art and design education in the UK and abroad. Fleur Connor, achieved two As in Art & Design and Religious Studies and B in English Literature to study Fine Art at the Glasgow School of Art. Yoji Caird*, achieved A in Japanese and two Bs in Art & Design and Design & Technology to study Product Design at University of the Arts London (Central St Martins). Benji Meredith-Hardy will study Three Dimensional Design at Manchester Metropolitan University having gained A in Art & Design, B in Design & Technology and C in Geography. Lola Crichton-Stuart has gained a design scholarship to Parsons, US after achieving A* in Art & Design and C in Design & Technology. Joe Barty-King will attend Rhode Island School of Design, US having gained two Bs in Art & Design and Design & Technology. 10 other art & design students have gained places on the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (FdAD) at Central St Martins (Olly Shinder), Oxford Brookes (Molly Beardall* and Daisy Hannam*), Kingston (Sophie Jenkin), UAL, Camberwell Chelsea and Wimbledon (Berty Warner*), Ravensbourne (Jack Graham), Loughborough (Izzy Adams), UCA Farnham (Jemima Goodfellow*), UCA Epsom (Alia Mehta*) and Instituto Marangoni (Scott Emerson).
