This summer saw the inaugural Shiplake College summer music festival, ‘Shiplake Rocks!’ take place. With a Main Stage, acoustic Tipi Tent and Pavilion Dance Stage there was an eclectic mix of music for festival goers to enjoy. Artisan food stalls, a bar and ice cream van helped to complete the festival vibe. Over 300 people attended the event including parents, pupils, friends of Shiplake College and College alumni.

Songs by Thin Lizzy, Simple Minds and The Smiths, as well as Elton John and Ed Sheeran could be heard from the Main Stage whilst in the Tipi Tent the audience was entertained by stirring performances from the College’s a capella choir, First Eight and singer songwriters, providing a scintillating balance to the programme.

The Pavilion Dance Stage provided the opportunity for the College’s student DJs, who have been learning ‘turntabilism’ for the past year to show off their talents.

Director of Music, Richard Curran who organised the event said: “The event was born out of the desire to provide a relevant platform from which our young musicians could express themselves. The festival was a resounding success and a great way of showcasing the exceptional talent within our School community. We are very much looking forward to this becoming an annual event!”
