Over the October half term, 1st XI Senior Hockey player at Austin Friars in Carlisle, Esther Stronach, was selected to play at England Hockey’s Futures Cup which took place at Cannock Hockey Club between the 29th October and 1st November. The Futures Cup aims to give players in the U18 category a first-hand experience of an international tournament environment, in preparation for potential future involvement in a National Age Group Squad.
Esther, a L6th student at the School, was selected to play for the U18 Pennine Pumas - one step away from the highest honours that can be achieved for young England players.
The Pennine Pumas finished in 3rd place, overall, in the U18 tournament with Esther scoring a goal 23 minutes into the final game to help the team beat Wessex Leopards 2-1 and earning Esther a bronze medal and, along with it, the highest Hockey Honours ever achieved by an Austin Friars' student.
