TV presenter and alumni, Michaela Strachan, returns to Claremont

Claremont Fan Court welcomed wildlife TV presenter and alumni, Michaela Strachan, back for a visit on Monday 3 February.

It was a great pleasure to welcome wildlife TV presenter and Claremont Fan Court alumni, Michaela Strachan (1974-1982), back for a visit on Monday 3 February. Best known for programmes including The Really Wild Show, Countryfile, Elephant Diaries and Springwatch, Michaela has recently been in the UK filming Winterwatch on BBC 2, with just enough time to visit her old school before heading back to her home in Cape Town, South Africa.

During her visit, Michaela enjoyed a tour of the school’s wonderful Forest School in the Pre-Prep and Nursery and met a group of pupils in the Prep School launching their own special recycling scheme and wildlife protection initiatives. She was delighted to hear about how much the children were learning about local wildlife and the actions they were taking to look after the environment.

Next she visited the Senior School’s newly modified media studies classroom, where three sixth form students interviewed Michaela in the green screen studio. A fantastic experience for those interested in how she embarked on her career in TV presenting. Finally, there was time for a student led tour of the school’s recently opened Sir Sydney Camm science and technology building.

Pupils and staff alike were thrilled to meet Michaela and we hope to welcome her back to the school in the not too distant future.
